For the pen to be mightier than the sword,

it must uphold a chivalrous code.

Believe in graft.

Talent, education and creativity are not enough. Without hard work, a good idea won’t grow towards the light. Articulating a story to its best, demands discipline. If you opt for The Word Garden, you’ll get work.

And deliver.

There is no cap on rewrites. Most copywriters will cap rounds of changes at three. Assuming you don’t alter the brief, I’ll work on every word until we agree it is as good as it can be.

I can give you a day rate, but it’s arbitrary. Trust me with your copy budget, and I’ll dig until I deliver - to deadline.

Believe in cultivating curiosity.

Words, stories and brands have roots. Curiosity leads to good research, deeper life experience, and better storytelling.

And grow.

Whether it is work time or life time, I do the research. I cultivate the curiosity that makes for better writing. This desire to get right to the soil of organisations, audiences and truth - helps me build a diverse portfolio, unearth new stories, and grow fresh experiences.

Believe in ego-free collaboration.

I’m passionate about the words I write - but I won’t get precious about them.

I look to work with good people, and trust their brains. I’m a firm believer that we’ll get to the best work together.

And thrive.

I don’t get huffy if you make a call on changes to my copy. I’ll always offer a rationale for word decisions, but at the end of the day, if you bring me on board to support your work - I will trust you to know your client, audience and sector. I look forward to what we will achieve together.

Believe in our ecological responsibility.

A prosperous Word Garden is a false economy, if it does not come hand-in-hand with a healthy planet. We are in the midst of a climate, human and planetary emergency. This stance is not a luxury or a trend. It’s a basic fact, that we have to do what we can.

And act.

I do love a bit of greenery, but am not big on greenwashing. I’m a firm believer that change must combine words, with actions. Our Earth Oath sees to that.
